Dion Risborg

Inducted into the A.M.A.H.O.F. (Inc) and W.K.U.H.O.F. for 2025
Continual Excellence and Service to the Australasian Martial Arts Community

Dion’s karate journey has been one of dedication, leadership, and a lifelong commitment to the values of traditional Japanese martial arts. Over more than four decades, he has worn many hats—that of competitor, instructor, director, and host—each role deepening his respect for the art and its community.

Dion has had the privilege of directing over 20 tournaments, hosting international training tours to Japan, and leading seminars that bring karateka together from all walks of life. With more than 140 events across 51 cities and four countries, he has stayed connected to the evolving world of Shotokan, while remaining grounded in its timeless principles. Through either the intensity of national competition or the camaraderie to be enjoyed at local events, Dion approaches each opportunity with the same spirit: with the discipline, humility, and a passion for growth.

As the senior instructor at Jindokai and a proud member of the World Shotokan Karate-Do Federation, he has focused on building a strong dojo culture—one that values tradition, integrity, and development. His personal motto “Succeed through the development of others,” is not just lip service—it’s the foundation of everything he does. He finds purpose in guiding students, supporting emerging athletes, and fostering the kind of community that karate was built for.

According to Dion, embarking on this path had never been about personal accolades. It is about contribution, connection, and passing on the legacy of Shotokan karate. He is proud of the journey thus far and is excited thinking about where it leads.
