Continual Excellence and Service to the Australasian Martial Arts Community

Renshi Jeroen Kueter has been involved in the Martial Arts for over 36 years. He first began training in 1989 with the Peter Morton Academy of Judo Jujitsu and Karate. It was then known as the Queanbeyan RSL Judo and Jujitsu Club, founded by Soke Peter Morton BEM OA in 1962. A school friend who was a student suggested he join the club. He received instruction from Shihan Edward Scharrer for several years, and joined the Queanbeyan Branch in 1993 for additional training as a Brown Belt.

As a student, he regularly assisted at many of the local branches. He volunteered with fundraising activities, participated in community demonstrations, and assisted in club gradings and seminars. In 1995 he was part of the St. Edmunds Branch team that won the Peter Morton Perpetual Trophy, a group Kata competition. Eager to contribute more to the Academy he produced the annual newsletter during the years 1994-1996.

In 1994, he was nominated into the Shodan course and commenced training under Shihan Rowley and Scharrer.  He successfully graded at the Honbu Dojo in Batemans Bay under Soke Peter Morton in 1996. The following year, Renshi Kueter took over the running of the Queanbeyan Branch as Chief Instructor, a position he held until 2004.

In 2002, the Academy reached a significant milestone – celebrating its 40th Anniversary. Renshi Kueter co-authored Many Mountain Summits, a publication commemorating the history of the Academy. In 2005 he was promoted to Yondan, and trained in other arts including Jodo, Iaido, and Kobudo.

Renshi Kueter moved to the north of Canberra with his family and opened a new Branch at Palmerston in 2016. The branch has had many successes, including winning the Peter Morton Perpetual Trophy for Juniors in 2018, Seniors in 2023 and again 2024. But the greatest reward has been seeing his students achieve their own personal goals through training.

In 2019 Renshi Kueter took up the position of Secretary to support the operation and growth of the Academy. He has been on the Shodan grading panel since 2019 and continues to mentor junior instructors.

Dealing with the challenges of COVID lockdown in 2021-2022, Renshi Kueter started online training for his students recording over 80 videos. This was a great success, and a way to maintain valuable engagement with students.

In 2023 he was formally graded and promoted to Godan. Renshi Kueter continues to train his students at his own branch Dojo, and assists at the Queanbeyan Honbu Dojo. He is passionate about passing on the many benefits that martial arts provide through self-training, and to ensure that the legacy of Peter Morton lives on. He advocates to one and all to ‘Be a Master of Yourself.
