Karen has been actively involved in martial arts since 2004 & ministry since 1998. Karen has taught Religious Education in State schools since 1998 & has coordinated, taught, and trained others to teach Religious Education at a Special School for disabled students since 2008. Karen has been a chaplain to nursing homes since 2003, conducting services & training clergy since 2006. From 2014 Karen has mentored others to teach Sunday School throughout the Torres Strait islands, where she visits each year to follow up on progress, funding such trips herself for which she was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Christian Ministry & Humane Letters from the UK.

Karen has trained in martial arts since 2004, grading to black belt in 2008 under Kaicho Mal Lomax’s supervision. Karen trained with Kaicho Mal Lomax monthly until November 2009 & Hanshi Peter McInnes weekly, continuing to teach students since then.

Karen has been a qualified Workplace Trainer since 2008, has become a member of the International Self Defence Association in 2011 and is currently a black belt fifth degree instructor. Karen has assisted in teaching self-defence to children at Brisbane where she empowers students to think through difficulties, and defend themselves if needed as a last resort. Karen assists whenever possible at the Australian Martial Arts Championships as a table official by scoring competitors in these events at local, national, and International levels, as well as competing at both state & national levels at National All Styles (2008-09) and Australian Martial Arts Championships (2011 onwards) tournaments over the past years.

Karen has owned and operated her own Bookkeeping and Accounting business since 1997, becoming a qualified BAS Agent from 2000 where she undertakes a BAS Agent role and also sets up accounting systems to train clients and their staff in their own businesses. She attained a Diploma of Business (Accounting) in 2001, Quality Business Management & Food Safety qualifications in 2005, Diploma of Theology in 2007, became JP Qualified in 2010, upgraded her Certificate IV in Training & Assessment qualifications attained in 2012, and attained a Diploma in Sports Coaching in 2014.

Karen teaches a general budgeting seminar that she created herself, free to anyone whom wants to know how to budget their income & save for their future.  Given this financial guidance, this has seen many gain skills to balance their spending, pay bills on time, save towards future spend and generally to gain peace of mind.
